North Burnet is a rectangular neighborhood named for its eastern border, Burnet Road. Mo-Pac Expressway, also known as Loop 1, makes up its western border, while the north is contained by Park Bend Drive. To the south, visitors can access Research Boulevard. It largely commercial and is comprised of the 78758 and 78759 zip codes.
Catering to the well-to-do, North Burnet is home to The Domain, an upscale outdoor mall that offers shoppers luxury boutiques like Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Betsey Johnson. Its cobblestone, pedestrian streets and European layout make it ideal for a romantic night with a significant other or a fun time to go shopping with friends or family. While it does have larger stores like Macy’s and Dillard’s, it is largely made up of small, upscale stores.
The Kramer Street Metro rail station is located in the North Burnet area, making it easy to travel to downtown Austin or to Leander to the north. The Captial Metro bus system also has stops in this area, which is a convenience for pedestrians and cyclists who wish to access the neighborhood.
Austin Community College’s (ACC) Northridge Campus is located in the northeastern corner of the North Burnet area and is surrounded by a number of apartment complexes aimed at college students and young professionals. While there are no official parks in the area, to the east of ACC lies a heavily wooded area where hikers can explore.
The North Burnet neighborhood is bisected by Braker Lane, which runs east to west and gives visitors a direct path to Interstate Highway 35. North Burnet is part of the northern technology corridor in Austin. IBM’s headquarters are located there, as are a number of smaller, computer-based businesses, including Image Microsystems and Scion Computer Technology. National Instruments is located across Loop 1 adding to its appeal to the tech-savvy individual.
